What Are the Various California Health Plans ?

There are many options to choose from when it comes to selecting a California health plan. There are a number of providers who all offer a variety of different health plans. You should look into each provider and find one that offers a policy that fits your needs. The health care providers in California are: Aetna, Assurant Health, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Clarendon National Insurance Group, CPIC Life, Fairmont Specialty Group, Health Net of California, Kaiser Permanente, PacifiCare and Security Life.

The individual California health plan has many different rules. If you have a pre-existing condition you can often be denied an individual health plan. Some plans also have no restrictions on premiums. However, you have the option of becoming HIPAA eligible. Once you get this you can't be turned down for an individual California health plan even if your have a pre-existing condition and there can be no exclusion periods. They also cannot place restrictions on the price of your health plan.

Currently there is no California health plan that allows a self-employed individual to get group health insurance. However, if you quality for group health insurance in any other way then you cannot be denied coverage even if you have a pre-existing condition and you won't be required to pay any extra amount. After you get group health insurance no sickness will cause the plan to be cancelled.

Once you get a new job and apply for group insurance you can't be denied due to a pre-existing condition. However, there may be an exclusion period during which you won't have coverage. However, if you don't have a break in your California health plan for over sixty-three days then you will get creditable coverage.

Insurance companies must wait at least six months after you get new coverage before they can check for pre-existing conditions. Genetic information cannot be considered a pre-existing condition.

There are also small business health plans in California. Under these plans group health insurance cannot be denied any small business for any reason related to the employees. Sometimes a higher premium may be charged for coverage if there is a pre-existing condition for one of the employees.

In California any small business no matter what their size is allowed to purchase group health insurance. Businesses have the option of purchasing from either a qualified, statewide alliance or a trade association. Business can go to the California Department of Insurance to gain further information on group health insurance options.
